Sony BDPS360 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray Player: Priced to appeal – Let’s all go for Blu-ray
Sony knows a thing or two about Blu-ray. Having been one of the pioneers of the format they have consistently developed better and better machines. The BDP360, to my mind, is the best compromise between quality, functionality and price.
The box itself is simple, yet elegant. There is nothing unique about it, not sloping or blue or smaller than the typical player, but it is done well and would look good under any TV set. What the box belies is how much technology has been squeezed in. The Blu-ray standards are all there, naturally. Full HD video. Up-conversion of DVD to full HD 1080p. 7.1 digital surround sound. It also gives the x.v. colour system which is supposed to double the range of colours that can be displayed. This makes the colours clear and the colour graduations blemish free, especially on large screens-shots of savannah, for example.

If you are after an easy to use, decent quality Blu-ray player there is no reason not to go for this box. Admittedly, it does have only one HDMI socket. This will be a bit troublesome if you want to use HDMI to connect your other boxes through this player. However, probably not a problem given that a Blu-ray player is not the natural hub.
Best of all is the price. Although still advertised at £150, it is available for £100 at Amazon.co.uk. For an award winning player, this strikes me as a real bargain.
