Don’t be captive: BeBook’s Neo lets you buy ebooks where you want

Here is the only thing that bothers me about the Kindle—being captive to Amazon’s ebook store. Not that I don’t love Amazon, it's just that captive part bugs me. I mean I can buy music on Amazon to play on my iPod without having to convert it. The new 6inch Wi-Fi Neo accesses a home portal that shows you where you can buy books from all over the world. Click on your country and you are sent to all your choices. This device uses a stylus, but I think those of us that grew up with highlighters have no problem holding something while reading if we plan to highlight which you can do with the Neo.

The manufacturer claims it runs 2.5 times faster than the competition due to its Freescale processor and the battery allows 7000 page turns on a full charge. It has a WACOM touch panel technology allowing sketching, annotating and text highlighting. It has 512MB of flash memory, a 3.5mm jack, USB, and an SD slot to add up to 16GB.

Most file formats can be read including 'ePub' (for free books) and 'PDF' (with and without Adobe DRM) for reading all those work documents. It has photo formats like JPG.

The BeBook Neo is available for pre order at www.mybebook.com and will be in stock February 25th. Can’t seem to buy BeBooks anywhere else in the US but there is the rest of the world.
