Forget the Sony PlayStation phone, it already exists

Zeemote yesterday said that the new Zeemote V3 Bluetooth Controller is now compatible with all the new Sony Ericsson Handsets including the Yari, Aino and Satio as well as the and eco-friendly Naite. This is on top of a handful of existing Sony Ericsson phones and a number of Series 60 handsets from Nokia, Samsung and LG.

We love the Zeemote for having found an entirely new marketplace for itself, acting as a Bluetooth connected remote control for handsets, which themselves are attached to TV screens and acting as PlayStation style consoles.

The new Zeemote V3 Bluetooth Controller can be used to play all mobile games, navigate phone menus, interact with other handset applications, control camera, music and video functions from a distance, it can e3ven be used on one handset, the Aino, as a remote controller for Playstatio 3 games.

It’s actually a remote control for the TV, when your handset videos are showing on the TV screen. Playing handset held video is tricky, usually because the handset has to sit on the TV because of the length of the TV out cable, and you can’t get far enough away to watch in comfort. So having a remote controller in this TV out mode is highly appealing. Ditto for music because it makes a phone more like an iPod, which already has these kinds of extra accessories.

You could even use the controller to web surf through the handset, attached to wi-fi, and play the resulting video, such as YouTube held videos, directly on a TV set. The previous Zeemote device the JS1 was on the market at £29.50 ($45) and it’s likely that this will be launched at a similar price.

Forget the Sony Playstation phone that we have all been talking about, single handed, this new generation Zeemote is it. We have one reservation about the device and that’s the fact that it is not in the form of a screen that is touch sensitive, more like a miniature traditional games controller

Already the device is compatible with BlackBerry Smartphones, and Nokia, Samsung and LG Series 60 Symbian devices

Zeemote says that at Christmas the device will feature as a stand-alone accessory in a specially marked “Ultimate Mobile Game Pack” through leading online retailers, mobile operators and top high street retailers in a variety of countries throughout Europe. The “Ultimate Mobile Game Pack” will include a Gameloft game activation code allowing customers to select from some of the best games on mobile.

Users will be able to choose any title from the Gameloft catalogue including hits titles like Assassins Creed, Asphalt 4 Elite Racing, Prince of Persia, Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X, Real Soccer 2010, Driver and KO Legends.

“As mobile device features, games and applications become more sophisticated the need for a bluetooth controller to enhance the user experience is being embraced worldwide. The Zeemote V3 Controller enables the user to experience the best in mobile device interaction in a precise and above all comfortable, easy and fun way. We are thrilled to be able to extend the feature/functionality of the Zeemote V3 to virtually all Sony Ericsson phones and to be able to offer the Zeemote Controller globally with our first class partners,” said Ernie Cormier, CEO & President, Zeemote Inc.
