Go on the PS3 diet, lose weight and save money
Big and exciting news from Sony this week as the long anticipated price cut of the PS3 has been officially announced. For the last few weeks speculation has grown as sellers have had trouble sourcing PS3s, fuelling the rumours that a major price-cut was on the horizon. Well last night it was announced that as of September the new sleeker, cheaper PS3 will become available, for $299 dollars in the US and £249 in the UK. Now I’m no mathematician, or economist, nor do I pay much attention to the news but seems to me the Americans are getting the better deal. Still it is very good news, and not only do you get a cheaper console but a considerably smaller one and a 120GB HDD.
Everything has been redesigned and is much like the shift from the bulky classic PS2 to the PS2 Slim. Size wise the bulk of the PS3 has been reduced by approximately two thirds, and this goes for the power consumption as well. Not only will it consume less electricity but the lower amount it juice it takes off the grid means the fan will be also be quieter.

The system’s software has been updated, featuring a “What’s New” screen which shows what users have recently played on the XMB bar and will allow them to browse the PlayStation Store. Shortcuts to all the different content on the PS3 have been added and Sony will continue to develop and improve this software. Classic PS3 users will also be able to enjoy v3.00 by updating their existing software via the XMB bar.
Just take a look at the picture and you can tell that this is a beautiful thing. So not only are you getting an improved games console that does everything the original did, you're getting one that looks a lot sexier as well, for a lower price. Sony hopes the redesign and price cut will bring the PS3 to a wider audience, and I’m sure it will do the trick. I’m sure because it’s a lot more than I expected, let me reiterate; better console, more HDD space, CHEAPER, and better looking. This is the gaming equivalent of dumping your girlfriend then finding out Megan Fox wants to go out with you and she’s a cheap date (unlikely scenario I know, what’s that Horrid, I’m not obsessed with Megan Fox). The new slimline PS3 will go on sale September 1.
