Tropico 3 on Xbox as Kalypso goes exclusively for Microsoft

Kalypso Media has announced that Tropico 3 will be released on the Xbox 360. This will be Tropico’s first time on the Microsoft console, as its previous titles were released for the PC. Tropico 3, due to be released later this year, is a simulation/city building strategy game where the aim, as El Presidente, is to keep your populace happy and avoid a military coup. Returning to the series’ roots, Tropico 3 takes the players back to a Cubanesque island setting where they can build their own communist paradise.

Stefan Marcinek, for the Kalypso Media group, says: “The Tropico 3 release on Xbox 360 is a first for Kalypso and marks an exciting entry into the console market”. Exciting maybe, and at the moment Kalypso has four games planned for release on the console in 2010, as well as Tropico 3, which will go on sale this September. As a Tropico fan, I’m not sure how it will fare on a console, but SimCity found a successful home on the SNES way back when, so this could be a good move.

Another recent announcement from Kalypso is the avatar creator in Tropico 3, which will allow the player to have far more control over the way your leader looks than before. The characters can be fully customised, which is more important in this game as you can actually walk around your island and greet your loyal subjects. So whether you want to go for the traditional military fatigues and beard or maybe be a bit daring and make him look like Barack Obama it's up to you. Tropico 3 is released this September but if you haven’t played either of the first two I’d recommend checking them out, as they are still available from the Sold Out range.
